From sheet metal and wire fabrication to refrigerator shelving and pet caging to everything in between, Mid-West Metal Products Company, Inc. knows metal. Their expertise goes all the way back to 1921, when Indiana was still in its prime due to a ready supply of energy sources that fueled booming industries such as rubber, iron, metal, automobile, glass and manufacturing. Centrally located in the heart of the Midwest in Muncie, Indiana, near major highways and just a hop and skip away from the ports of Chicago only added to their early success and a strong foundation upon which to grow.
From their birth until around the 1930s, Mid-West Metal produced electrical items for hardware stores nationwide. From 1931 until 1945, when other Indiana factories were experiencing shutdowns and lay-offs, Mid-West Metal, true to form and ever evolving to stay competitive, diversified to include canner racks as the need grew for home canning supplies due to the great depression and many Americans learning new ways to cope with limited quantities of food. As the economy once again steadied and Americans returned to normal day to day lives, the company returned to manufacturing for the hardware store industry from 1946-1963. In the mid-1960s, Mid-West Metal boldly entered into the pet industry with a feature product of metal pet cages. As the 2000s rolled around, they once again diversified to include domestic manufacturing of fabricated wire and sheet metal parts and components.
Always a step ahead and forward thinking, Mid-West Metal has remained strong by diversifying and evolving with the world around them; not only widening product offerings but also importing and distributing items as well. Mid-West Metal’s seasoned management team of Steve Smith – CEO, Kevin Smith – Vice President of Human Resources, Chip Rolfsen – CFO, Brad Cantwell – President of Pet Division and Steve Confer – President of Industrial Division have always remained steadfast to the company mission and their customers. The team’s combined 140 years of dedicated service and commitment to quality have aided Mid-West Metal in becoming an industry leader in wire-formed and fabricated, sheet metal fabricated and tubular metal products for clients worldwide. They currently serve repeat customers ranging from billion dollar global corporations to budding small enterprises.
A company where teamwork, an eye on quality and a commitment to new technologies are everyday occurrences, customers are exceedingly satisfied with outsourcing their metal needs to Mid-West Metal. Though the company has grown over the years to be of considerable size, they still maintain that small company “job shop” feel that their customers have come to love.
Due to their expertise within their field, their insights are often sought out for industry publications. You may have seen them featured in The Fabricator Magazine, Digital Workflow, The Powder Coating Institute Magazine or several of the pet industry publications. Additionally, they are members of several key industry associations (Wire Fabricators Association, Pet Industry Distributors Association and American Pet Products Manufacturers Association) and Mid-West Metal’s CEO sits on several local Indiana non-profit boards.
As a company vested in the economic landscape of Indiana with four active plant locations within the state, Mid-West Metal also believes in bettering the community where they live, work and play. They actively support the Delaware County Community Foundation with an endowment fund that funds grants awarded by the Foundation.
